The procedure for obtaining an electronic visa was approved in the fall of 2020, and the system was planned to be launched in 2021. The visa is valid for 60 days from the date of issue, but you are allowed to stay in Russia with it for no more than 16 days. The list of states, whose citizens will be able to apply for the single electronic visa includes 52 countries. It will be possible to cross the border through any specially equipped checkpoint, regardless of the region, and to travel across the country. In January 2021 the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported that Russia prepared a system of issuing a universal single-entry electronic visa for foreign citizens, designed for short stays, but its launch in practice will depend on the epidemic situation.
